Design, mechanics and growth of deployable plant thin shells

The vegetal world presents lot of strategies to protect organs in confined protective spaces (folded leaves in the bud, reproductive cell in pollen grains, seed and seedpods) when they are not active while letting them open when they have to be active.
I studied the implications of theses strategies on the mature leaf shape; I developed tools form differential geometry to understand the shape optimisation underlying seedpod or pollen grain opening; I studied how growth are coordinated on the avocado leaf during unfolding.
